How to Handle Stress in a Godly Way !
Loving greetings to all you mothers and to each one of you taking the time to pause as I share my experience and thoughts for you during this season of your life.
Thank you so much for praying for me. This year my scan report came out clear. All glory to God!
This time I thought of sharing a few thoughts on how to handle stress in a godly way. Its been 7 years since my son Vijay has gone home to be with the Lord. Not a day goes by without me thinking of what an amazing and beautiful son God has blessed me with and all my 7 children have been a great blessing to me and I value and appreciate each one of them for all the small and big ways they care for me and my husband. We are blessed parents and will always remain a blessed family because of all that God has done for us.
"Do not be Afraid, For I am with you, I will bring your children from the East and gather you from the West. Isaiah 43:5 says the Lord Almighty.
These days the whole world seems to be talking about stress, stress, stress. All of us have experienced this word at some point in our lives, but the Bible gives a different meaning to this so-called “stress.” It speaks of being weary, worried, anxious or heavy-laden. Jesus says, “Come to me; I will give you rest.”
In my 48 years of married life, I have often felt worried and anxious, with a heavy heart for many days and months. But I always learned to go to my Father in heaven—and He delivered me every time. Back then, I didn’t even realize that what I was experiencing was called “stress.” One godly brother once told me, “My Heavenly Father, that’s Jesus, has a phone number.” Psalms 50:15 it says: “Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.” God is always reachable. His line is never busy, and His phone is never switched off. My dear mothers, why don’t you try calling this number and see for yourselves how faithful He is? From any part of the world, at any time, He hears us.
Biblical Ways to Handle Stress
1. Shift your thinking
Philippians 4:6 says: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” Paul reminds us not to worry but instead to pray and ask God for what we need. Rather than focusing on the situation, we need to focus on our Almighty, all powerful & faithful and loving God & Father.
2. Prioritize what’s important
Mark 12:30–31 says: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. This is the first commandment. And the second is: Love your neighbor as yourself.”
First, we must give importance to God, and let go of things that are not truly important. This reduces stress. Many times we even miss out on family time. But spending time with our Lord and with our family is one of the best ways to relieve stress.
3. Simply Sit at His feet
Luke 10:38–42 tells us the story of Martha and Mary. When Jesus visited their home, Martha welcomed Him but became upset while preparing food. She asked Jesus to tell Mary to help her. But Jesus said, “Martha, Martha, you are worried about many things. But Mary has chosen what is better.”
Martha was doing a good thing, but Mary chose to sit at Jesus’ feet and listen. That’s what we need too—to spend time in His presence and listen to Him.
The Bible also tells us not to worry about tomorrow, for today’s problems are enough. God will give us the grace to handle today. Let us shift our focus from our problems to our God, spend time with Him and with our family, and keep life simple.
I have gone through many challenges. The biggest tragedy was losing my eldest son in September 2018. That heartbreak was unbearable. A year later, I fell seriously ill, and the doctor told me the cause was too much stress. Yes, dear mothers, stress can even cause sickness. My humble request is this: do not be weighed down by worry—commit everything to the Lord, call on Jesus, and He will help us overcome and deliver us.
I would like to conclude with a short story
There was once a God-fearing mother who prayed every day with tears, saying, “Father, this cross is too heavy for me to carry.” She likely had many children, little resources, and some sickness too. One night, she had a dream. God said to her, “Come, I will show you different crosses. You may leave yours here and choose the one you want.”
She saw many crosses made of gold, silver, iron, and wood. She happily tried to exchange her cross for another. She lifted a golden one—it looked small but was too heavy. She tried others, but all were too heavy. Finally, she picked up a wooden cross that felt lighter. She told the Lord, “This one is nice. I’ll take this.”
God gently told her, “This is the same cross you brought here. I will never give my child more than they can carry. I am your Father. Do not worry. I will be with you always.”
1 Corinthians 10:13 says: “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
Dear mothers, let us not grow weary. God is our refuge and strength. He will never leave us nor forsake us. Let us hold on to our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Praying for you all, and may God bless you richly.
